Does anyone know of a good source ( book etc ) on the ins and outs of transformer oil testing. I have a 18kv/115kv unit that we are watching very closely due to gassing issues and would like to gather as much info on testing as I can. Thanks in advance

Transformer Oil hand Book ,April 2004 ,Pages 250 ,$90
You can have it from

I just came across a very neat nanotech approach to testing the hydrogen concentration in transformer oils. if you google for 'transformer oil' and 'nano' and 'palladium' you'll come to a link to a magazine article on the device. that magazine is what you're looking for.

aw heck, heres the link:

the magazine seems good too.

btw, if you end up using the H2 sensor, do let us know how it behaves etc; Im keen on using it myself later on.

Just to add to the reply of jnims:

The Transformer Maintenance Guide 2004 (ISBN 0939320029) is fairly impressive and a good to have book.

To order your copy of the Transformer Maintenance Guide, point your browser to the TMI bookstore at or call 800.444.9580 x 3242.

The link does not work - I assume a phone call will be the best bet.
