Hey All,

We're having some system problems and one of my fellow engineers mentioned the possibility of commutation notching/recovery exciting a resonance in a parallel transformer. I haven't heard of this specific problem before (but I'm rather new). I was wondering if any of you have.

Has anyone heard of thyristor notching exciting resonances in a parallel transformer?

Does anyone know of any IEEE (or other) published papers where I might find out more about the subject?

Thanks!

I've heard more about the high magnitude, high frequency currents generated by notching playing heck with capacitors. But its possible that these components could excite a system close to resonance already. In addition to searching for resources on thyristor notching, you might want to look for information on ferroresonance. Understanding the system topologies that can result in resonance will be a help in either ruling it in or out.

What are the symptoms that suggest resonance?
