Dear All,

Can you share or point out the reference for the equations involved in the calculation of transient response from mode co-efficients.

Is there any correspondence between the modal participation factors listed from modal analysis to the mode co-efficients from transient response.

Probably easiest to explain in the frequency domain. Assign a damping factor to each mode. Calculate the sdof response curve of the driving point to the excitation spectrum. Multiply that by your complex mode shape coefficient for the coordinate of interest. Repeat for all the modes. Vector sum the response spectra.

Now,I haven't touched a modal in eighteen years so I may be a bit rusty.

Cheers
