Transition from 2001 to WF

I am curious want the learning curve will be coming from Pro/E 2001 (2 years usage) and SolidWorks (12 years usage).

I just got let go and will be competing for some contract-2-hire jobs. I want to be realistic with my skills presentation.

I would appreciate any feedback.

I would guess jumping into Wildfire 4 or maybe 5?

You will have more problems with WF5, than WF4, but you will be lost for a while as you try to figure out what has moved. Luckily PTC has their Menu Mapper that allows you to enter the 2001 command and see where it is in WF.

There are some courses that just bring you up to speed with the user interface. Alternately, buy a book.

About 2 years back, the company I work for made the jump from Pro|E 2001 to Wildfire 4.0. It took about 3 weeks to get over the loss of the Menu Manager. Unfortunately, while PTC did provide the Menu Mapper, it does not map from 2001 to WF4, it goes to WF3 (iirc) and there might be a few changes from there.
The one BIG change was the move to the "dashboard".
Honestly, it may seem silly, but the Intro to Wildfire 4.0 and 5.0 classes that are being offered are incredibly good at teaching you where all the new "picks-n-clicks" are now (the changes really are that dramatic).
Now, if you are going to Creo...I wish you luck. There is almost as much of a change from Wildfire to Creo as there is from 2001 to Wildfire.

I highly recommend a tutorial book of some kind (SDC publications and Cadquest do very well) and look through the various online free tutorials throughout the web. Learning exchange has some relatively good information and if you can access the knowledge base at ptc.com then you can browse that as well. From my personal experience I would definitely recommend wildfire 5.0 or Creo as there have been wonderful improvements to work flow and usability. I was certified in Solidworks (4 years experience) before my current job (2 years experience) and was very lost as it felt I was taking a step backward when working with ProE and the menu manager. We have upgraded to WF5.0 and are testing Creo. I feel that the new dashboard and UI are more on track with what Solidworks has offered for quite some time now, so if you are more familiar with Solidworks then I would recommend the newer versions. But if the menu manager is what you know then yes you may be very lost even with the menu mapper as things have changed quite a bit.
