Transition to Texas

Hello All
I'm looking to transition to Texas. Currently I've spent 10 yrs working in the northeast Atlantic area. I want to move to Texas. But before I do, I want to expand my knowledge and skill on topics that would be useful for a geotech in Texas. Besides learning more about expansive clay, what other topics should I dive into? Additionally, what softwares are commonly used for topics regularly handled in Texas.

And I guess, maybe suggestions of companies I should look into in Texas.

Texas is pretty big, and somewhat varied geologically. Might want to narrow that down if possible.

Although the expansive clays are definitely the topic that come to mind first.

They seem to do a lot of post-tensioned slab on ground residential work in Texas. Not sure I understand their concepts, or whether they actually work, but that would be a topic I would want to investigate if moving there.
