While it seemed like a step in the right direction it has it limits when a lot of geometry is behind it. I find it very hard to read the tree. Is there any way to go back to the old opaque style?

If you like to live a little dangerously, you can edit the registry to get that option.

\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 2004\General

TFMOpaqueState: set it to 1

**************************************
And for you guys who like your Feature manager tabs back at the bottom.

\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 2004\General

Mgr View Tabs Pos: Set it to 1

Only edit the registy if you are cofortable doing so. Deleting or changing the wrong thing could render your computer inoperable.

Your registry edits seem harmless enough. I always back up the registry before I make a change anyway (although things can still happen I know). I like you second edit too. After 5 years of having the tabs at the bottom, I am finding it hard to having them at the top. I figured it was something I would just have to get use too.

I don't know why Solidworks doesn't provide an option for these settings and more. There should be a user interface tab in the Options dialogue that control things like this.

These registry tweaks are mostly harmless as long as you stay in teh "hkey_current_user" section. Anything deleted will get added back by Solidworks from "hkey_local_machine".

And as always, backup the registry key before you make changes to it.

Where do I find this file to modify?
Thanks in advance,

Registry items are usually in:
Start->Run, then type regedit and enter.

Don't mess with this stuff if you don't know what you're doing or you could foul up your computer completely. Always back up your registry (export) even if you do know what you're doing before making any changes.

If you want to tweak the registry, go to the Start menu, select Run and type "regedit".

Like in all posts, be carefull with what you do. Any changes are aplied immediatly to the registry file (you don't have a save command, you don't have an undo).

If you do not understand what the registry is, do not mess with it until you have researched this and know what you are doing. It is horrendously dangerous ground in Windows.

I agree that the transparent tree is great on a plain light background, but how often does that happen in combat. SW really should have dealt with this issue before releasing 2004 - it is a definite defficiency - and so obvious.
