Thanks for taking a look at this thread. I am a new user, and this is my first thread.
I am looking for a transparent, machinable material that will withstand temps upwards of 170C. The less polishing the better. Is anyone familiar with such a material?
Thanks again.

Aluminium oxynitride or AlON is a ceramic composed of aluminium, oxygen and nitrogen. It is marketed under the name ALON by Surmet Corporation. ALON is optically transparent (≥80%) in the near-ultraviolet, visible and midwave-infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. It is 4 times harder than fused silica glass, 85% as hard as sapphire, and nearly 15% harder than magnesium aluminate spinel.

Machinable?

Sure, with a diamond. I was going to post the Star Trek transparent aluminum but found this instead.
