Hi.
Can anyone please explain whether the travelling band screen capacity must be same as the capacity of circulating water pumps in power plants or not? If so, what is the reason behind this? The intake channel is directly connected with fore bay. Hence how the capacity of travelling band screen affects the requirement of circulating water pump?

For example. If we were to use 10000 cum per hour capacity travelling band screen whose inlet is directly connected to sea and the pump capacity is 25000 cum per hour, then what would be the effect.

The screen should have the same or slightly higher capacity than the pumps. In addition the screen should be designed for the peak flow of the pumps, not the normal capacity.

If the screen does not have adequate capacity, then the pumps capacity will be lessened should the water level drop across the screens. In addition, the pump operating point will move off the BEP and pumping costs will increase as efficiency drops.

pardon my ignorante but what is a traveling band screen? Already google it up. Is it a filter for waste water or something?

I believe that the OP is referring to an intake screen:
