Tremie Method 1

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has experience in concreting by tremie method. Weve been advised to use this in a location for piled foundations, if groundwater is encountered.

Weve decided to use tremie regardless. Would there going to be any issues with using tremie if ground water is not encountered?

Apparently high slummp of around 200mm is recommended with tremie, could this cause an issue?

No issue if there's no groundwater. Tremie is a good way to get concrete down a hole regardless of whether you're trying to keep water out.

200mm slump is done with admixtures. You can still have a good quality, low water mix.

If groundwater, you pump from within and let the concrete displace the water.

Ok, I was worried high slump could jeoparize the concrete or cause segregation?

So you guys are saying using tremie method is ok even if we dont get to groundwater and the high slump could be achieved with other admixtures?

I did a skim read of that document, it seems to suggest slump of 400mm? Thats too high!

Ab21, I suggest referring to the local (state) Main Roads department's specification. The concrete producers and contractors will be set up for that.

I do not think 400mm is necessarily too high. For deep tremie pours under drilling fluid you are essentially using self compacting (self consolidating) concrete. This type of concrete is probably better assessed using the L-box test, spread test and T500 time.

Just noticed that... I've not seen 16" slump used anywhere... typically 6" is the top I've seen...
