Hi,

Does anyone have any experience with using internal capture rate deductions in trip generation estimates? I have a 17-acre parcel in a suburban setting. The proposed development is a mix of retail, restaurant, grocery, and hotel. I am reviewing a traffic impact analysis study and it shows an overall internal capture rate of 6% in AM, 37% in PM and 40% on SAT. I am having trouble wrapping my head around some of the higher percentages of internal capture, for example 33% of retail trips and 41% of restaurant trips in the PM. Are roughly half of the people leaving a restaurant on a SAT going to adjacent retail? The traffic engineer used the methodology in the ITE Trip Generation Handbook 3rd Ed. I can't find any errors in his calculations although he did lump a grocery store into the "retail" category and used SAT capture rates for PM. I am kind of new to TIA review and I was wondering if anyone had experience with typical internal capture rates.
