I can certainly sympathize with the workers killed and injured at this construction site. The causes (not just technical but also systemic) should be looked at and considered relative to alterations in how construction is "done" in the U.S.

But the construction workers long rambling rant ends up being nothing more than a call for a union power-grab based on old socialistic (dare I say Marxist) concepts.

While the pressures to get the hotel built fast may have been due to the high cost of money and time, this isn't a problem with capitalism. These construction jobs wouldn't have even existed here without this so-called "evil" capitalism. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

A construction worker's insight? I don't know how to start to respond to that, I didn't think he was ever going to finish! In fact, I'm not going to waste my time trying to respond. The construction industry is too important to waste time with gobblie gook like that.

Let's wait to see the offical finds of the investigation before we asign any blame.

This statement doesn't sit well with me:

"Indeed, construction accidents ARE a crime, actually a form of
manslaughter...preventable deaths caused by human recklessness.
However, it's not just a question of individual greedy contractors
acting at random in a social vacuum....the problem is with the system,
and the cold hard financial realities that put contractors in a
position where they need put the lives and health of tradespeople at
risk to make a profit."

What is the definition of an accident?

I would think he should have made a distinction between negligence and accident, after all, the document was edited very well and it appeared he had done indepth statistical research.

[blue]ERV[/blue] got it right - What is the definition of an accident?

The article was too tedious to read in its entirety. Man, he was long-winded! And it was clear to me that he had an axe to grind.

But he did make a very valid point: there are too many construction deaths. Period. Contractors do need to do a better job of making construction sites safe.
