I drew up some house plans in another CAD program. I exported the plan view into a dxf. Then I opened the file with AutoCad for further editing.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to troubleshoot why I am having a problem with the editing?

1. When I try dimensioning the lines appear all over the drawing to the edges of the screen. These are all associated with the dimension. The offset is automatically placed and the text is un-readable-almost as if it were in a Z plane. (The dimensioning that was exported to the dxf appear to be correct.)

2. Layers were transferred in 'blocks' and it seems that none of the different color, line, text properties came with them. (Although, the model view appears to be an exact replica).

3. Also, I noticed that when I printed a 8x11 copy many of the linestyles appear to have been changed from what I had them in the other progam.

Thank You.

Dimension objects are not well transferred between some CAD systems.
Try creating a good dimension style in AutoCAD and then changing the style of your dimensions to this new style (use properties dialog).
