Does anyone have any thoughts on truck trailer gooseneck design. I have been asked to "copy" a design for a shipping container tipper that I think will see early hours failure. Each of the two rails has a single web with top and bottom flanges and diagonal c section braces from flange corner to flange corner across the web. (how can i post a photo?) To me the diagonal members are the wrong idea (Welds in areas with big stress). Maybe a box section (two webs) would be better? All the designs I have seen have sharp cornered "z" shaped designs rather than smooth radii "s" shapes with stifferners welded from corner to corner. Come on you trailer fellas, let us in on the secret!

The last time I posted precise details about photo dl/up and posting links it got deleted. If you go to that site it should guide you along. If you don't know which link to post, post them all and see which works.

Think of it in terms of tension and compression rather than bending. The low beds that come apart in front for hauling bulldozers, etc are all corners too.

---A top down photo of the area would help alot!!---

In general, attaching the diagonal braces slightly away from the corners will probably create more problems in the long run. You would be left with a stiff section in the middle and two flexible sections on either end. These small sections would take all of the bending.
