True Shading

Hi,
I add to a sheet metal component a 'Red Metallic Paint', but it remains gray.
Why ?
If I use the 'Black Glossy Plastic' it become black.

Can I find on Internet more true shading material ?
If yes, in which folder I must to add ?

Hi Jerry,
the part is red, but when I activate the true shading, the part become gray.
In the basic light option, I tried to change everything, but it remains gray.
When I deactivate the true shading, the part return red.

The part probably has a material assigned to it the colour of which is grey.

the part has a material assigned (steel), but I changed the part color with Ctrl+J in red.
When I start true shading, the part become gray.

If you changed the 'material' using...

Tools -> Materials...

...there will be NO impact on the color used when viewing or rendering your model as basically all this does is assign the proper specific density and a link to the materials library used when performing Finite Element Analysis. However, if you go to the 'System Materials' tab on the Resource Bar, this WILL have an impact on the appearance of you model when using rendering applications including Studio, however this will have no effect whatsoever on the specific density assigned or how FEM/FEA interprets the model.

True shading only has the 'hard-coded' dialog assigned colors which are only in effect when in the 'True Shading' mode. It's not indended to replace high-quality or Studio rendering, but rather the goal was to provide more realistic color options for when you're working in real-time on hardware which supports this type of shading.

I'll be the first to admit that many people use it as part of their 'demo' environment as it makes for better visuals and looks cool. But remember, even in the 'real world' it often helps to spiff of your work if you're having to show your work to groups like upper-level executives and marketing types. So there is a value here for people actually doing real work in the real world.

'Real work in the real world' ... I'll remember that one next time I'm trying to tell marketing that "No, they can't have that part in translucent green, that was just a CAD image so you could see the parts inside"!!!!

It's like when you walk into the lobby of a company and they have on display a full-size 'model' of their mainline product assembled with most of the parts made from plexiglass. I remember years ago visiting Izusu and seeing a chassis with their all-wheel drive components where what normally would have been the housing and casting were all plexiglass while the internal moving parts were chrome-plated. I'm sure that they never actually sold a car with a transparent power-train ;-)
