Try to build a workstation for Solid Works

Hi,
I whant to build a station with a P4-2.8-800fsb, 512RAM, PNY FX500card, P4C800-EDX mobo, Antec 1040BII case, for CAD applications(Solid Works). I have already the PNY Quadro FX500 video card(I have only this item) and I would like to buy the P4C800-EDX Asus Motherboard but,I do not know if those 2 hardware are compatible.
ThePNY Quadro FX500 videocard have this specification:
"PERFORMANCE FEATURES": AGP 8X with Fast Write
and
"MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:
One available AGP 2.0 compliant slot or better"
(There is no specification about the voltage)

The motherboard , have this specification:
1 x AGP Pro/ 8X/ 4X (0.8V, 1.5V only)

Can you tell me please, if my video card will work on the P4C800-EDX ?If not, what would be your suggestion for another motherboard or for an other configuration?

I'm finally getting my system upgraded at work & will be getting almost identical specs as yours, except my MoBo will be P4P800 (don't know what the difference is though).
According to the system supplier the FX500 is supposed to work OK, but the card is on backorder & will not arrive for another week or so. If you can wait till then I will let you know. Better still, contact Asus &/or nVidia/PNY & ask them!

I would go with at least 1 gig of ram. Once you start using it you will see that 512 just won't cut it. Other than that make sure your power supply is sufficient, and you have enough room in your tower for cooling...wether it be with fans, or convection. Heat can be a killer to the electronics. Good luck on getting the workhorse.

I should be getting all the parts for my SW workstation this week... I'm going with the Athlon 64 3000 and the Albatron K8X800 ProII motherboard. I'm not sure of the video card yet, still debating. I'm also getting the 74 Gb raptor by western digital 10,000 RPM SATA drive.. and a Gig'O RAM

The albatron board is made for overclocking - its completely flexible so you can run it as fast as your fans can cool. I'm getting one of the Thermaltake cases so it will come with 8 fans and all the air will be filtered...

I'm hoping this will get rid of most of the lag my 1.6 Ghz Athlon XP experiences...

Now have my system up & running & the FX500 is great. You would probably not be disappointed ... unless you're pushing the graphics envelope in which case go for a higher spec nVidia card

I also have a fx500 card and i love, it seems it even decreased the number of crashes. I used to have about 2 a day, now I have about 1 a week!!. I don't how big your assembly's are gonna be but I work occasionally with 1000+ components and then you would like to have 2 gig of ram, I used to have 1 and I really can notice the difference,
