I'm tryin to determine the torque capacity of a 120 mm DIN 5480 external spline, W120x5x30x22x8g. From what I've been able to gather I need to refer to the standard DIN 5466-2 but I can't find anywhere to obtain it? Not even on the DIN website. If anyone is able to help the spline length is 90 mm and the spline material is 4340.

ike2010,

Machinery's Handbook gives a simplified approach for spline torque capacity. It was developed by Dudley. You'll just need to convert your units of measure.

If you want a spline fatigue life value for a given torque and number of load cycles, that problem becomes more complex.

Good luck.
