I am looking for 3D modeling software to model substations. There are a few things I would like the software to be able to do and I am not sure if Inventor does it all or not. I need to be able to make fly through animations of projects, model buildings, and have a way that different model objects can be easily snapped together. Does Inventor meet all these needs or is there other 3D software that will do this more efficiently?

Inventor does do this, in fact, if when you get Inventor in the Product Design Suite Premium there are even better tools that ship with it like Navisworks for flythrough and 3D Gantt charts with visual animations of timelines for the project. As well as other tools like ACAD Electrical and core AutoCAD.

You should also consult a reputable VAR for more information on Autodesk Substation Design which is a specialized tool combining AutoCAD Electrical and Autodesk Inventor. Consider this if you are a larger company doing this work like Duke Energy.
