tube materials for geothermal wells

Hi,

I am looking into materials for geothermal tubes applications and I have a few questions:

1. What are the materials generally used?
2. Are there applications out there for higher corrosion resistance materials (e.g. Ta, Mo, Nb, Ti, others)?
3. What is the main failure mode of these tubes and what causes it?

I know it is a lot to ask and I greatly appreciate your help.

A lot of this is carbon steel or Cr Mo steels (T-22 for ex).
In the hottest and most corrosive wells you will see Fe/Cr/Ni/Mo alloys (825) being used.
There are reports from Geothermal Resources Council (GRC) that describe what people have used.

Is the tubing material you are look for for geothermal power plants or geothermal applications for buildings?

Good point! I was interested in tubes for geotermal power applications.

I am interested in the feasibility to promote Ta tubing (or similar) in applications where corrosion is a significant problem.
