Can someone post the Fy and Fu values for both ASTM A 500 and ASTM B 500 HSS tube shapes?

Thanks,

Jeff

ASTM A500 Grade A - Fy = 39 ksi; Fu = 45 ksi
ASTM A500 Grade B - Fy = 46 ksi; Fu = 58 ksi
These are for rectangular shapes per AISC ASD Ninth Edition

In the Third Edition of AISC LRFD (Table 2-1), Grade A appears to be deleted and Grade C is introduced. For Grade C, Fy = 50 ksi and Fu = 62 ksi.

Properties for round sections are different.

Jeff,

When I started using HSS, I called the tech department at RAM, who advised using A500 Grade B for structural use. The veteran at local Ceres Pipe & Metal told me, "A 500 Grade A is used only for architectural purposes. For structural applications, Grade B is used."

In fact, my structural software, RAM Advanse, does not even include A500 Grade A in the standard database of materials. Only Gr. B and Gr. C are listed.

Hope this helps, DairyDesigner
