Hello,

I'm a student at a university, I read the posting rules and I hope I'm not violating them.

For my senior design project we are working on the turbocharger on a Mercedes diesel engine. My only questions are what are some specific specs.
The engine model is OM 906 LA.

1) What is the max operating speed of the shaft and compressor?
2) What is the time it takes to reach top speed?
3) What is the material of the shaft and bearing on it?

Thank you.

Recommended for you

1. Varies with the turbo
2. Varies with exhaust pressure and flow
3. Varies with the turbo

I would touch base with Mercedes and/or the turbo manufacturer.

If the correct turbo is a Borg-Warner K27, the compressor map for the K27 says that 100 % of max turbo speed is 150 KRPM. I found a picture of the compressor map on line by searching for:

Borg-Warner K27 turbo compressor map

My opinion: don't let the turbo speed get above 90 % of the 150 KRPM.

Borg-Warner might be willing to give you more info.

This after-market website provides dimensions of the turbine wheel and compressor wheel:

For a given frame size there are many compressor and turbine wheel combinations with different maps and limits, often several variations over the lifecycle of a specific engine.
