CAN ANY ONE TELL ME WHAT IS THE 'TURNDOWN RATIO'.
IT'S VERY USED IN SEPARATORS BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT DOES IT MEAN!

IMO, a term used to indicate how far below design throughput equipment can be efficiently operated.

Turndown = max. controllable throughput/min. controllable throughput. The key work is controllable.

50:1 turndown means that you can control from 2% to 100% of flowrate. 2:1 turndown means that you can only control from 50% to 100% of flowrate which is just stating what Latexman stated in a different way. I've commonly seen it used on desuperheaters which typically don't have real good turndown ratios-most of them, that is.

Experience has shown me that you need to ask each client and each owner what their definition of turndown is - it seems to vary. Get it defined clearly as part of scope management. You also need to be able to define if some of the desired specifications are flexible during turndown situations.
