Hi,

We have an Amada VIPROS 357 Queen Turret Punch Press. Listed in the manufacturer specifications is a "Repeatability" tolerance of +/-.001. Can someone explain what this repeatability tolerance really means? I am trying to determine the overall tolerance of the machine combining Punch Accuracy and Repeatability. They also list a value called "Positioning Accuracy" which is, according to Amada, a meaningless number to the end user. That number is describing the positional tolerance of the servos and is not accounting for all of the mechanical components attached to them (and their corresponding tolerances).

Thanks for your help.

Repeatability is the looking at being able to repeat a location in your punching. If you punch hole A, then do another 10/20 holes and come back to the hole A location, the machine head will be within .001 of the originally punched location.

If your machine is brand new, punch a grid of say 100 holes on a square plate. Measure the accuracy of the holes and store the plate away. A year from now, put another plate in the machine, and run the same program. The differences between the two plates will give you an idea of how much wear or backlash you have accumulated.
