Hi:
I have a question about application engineering in the context of interior double-ended substations. To wit,
is it warranted to install TVSS protection on the secondary sides of double-ended substations between the transformer secondaries and the main secondary breakers (480Y V or 208Y V)?
These substations are 12.47kV-480Y/277V or 12.47kV-208Y/120v and are interior substations. The feeders for these substations originate at a 69kV/12.47kV main substation 2000ft away. The feeders to the interior substations are in concrete encased ductbanks.
Once they get to the building where the substations are housed, the double-ended substations feeders are in RGC all the way to the substaion HV primary switches 500ft away. The TVSS are units by Lightning Protection Corp. (LPC) for application at 480V or 208V.
Please advise.
