I would like to know the best way to select a TVSS (Transient Voltage Surge Suppression)unit. I am familiar with many of the manufactures and they all claim to be the best, most use fuses but some do not. Some have been in business for 30 yrs other have been in business for 3 years.
some use a standard NEMA LS1 1992 or UL others use CBEMA (Computer Business Equipment Maufactures Association). Ive spoken to some of the people at NEMA and they tell me that the NEMA LS1 1992 is out dated and no longer used because some manufactures load there data. Some manufacture Clamp high (500 Volts) and some manufacture clamp low (400 Volts). CBEMA says that damage does not accure to micro-processor based hardware until you reach 850 volts or better so if you clamp at 400 or 500 volts does it really matter??
