Hi Ya

One of my manufacturers uses some kind of cnc machine (never seen it and not really my field) for machining wood for us. The thing is we want to streamline some processes and want to be able to squirt my solidworks drawings stright into his machine and let it do its thing. The thing is it mentions using DXF files and to set the colours of drawings to different colours depending on the work to be carried out, ie red for cuts, yellow for holes (or something). Is anyone aware on how to achieve this via solidworks, any help wil be appreiciated.
Cheers

You have to export out your DXF file then open the DXF back up in SW then you can change the lines and any of them onto it's own layer. You also might look into using a Map file (Located under the options button when saving as a DXF.

cheers SBaugh, could be the ticket, fingers crossed

CNCs are different...

Our CNCs use IGS files, as well as .dxf, and our parts come out great. May be worth the effort to find out other files the CNC will accept and export your model to the compatable format.

Bonus to this type of process aides protyping...no need for drawing.

There are a number of exportable file types...experiment and have fun!
