I am leaving my PhD program. I have a MS in aerospace engineering. I have enough credits so that if I stayed just one more year, I would get an MS in mechanical engineering.

Question
Is it worth it to stick around another year to get an MS in Mechanical Engineering (when I already have an MS in Aerospace Engineering)?

Having two MS degrees, one in Mechanical engineering and one in Aerospace engineering seems very redundant and pointless. Having said that, I already have finished 1 years worth of credits and research. Furthermore, this MS would have a unique thesis. Still, it seems pointless due to the similarity of the 2 credentials.

Agreed. If you're picking up additional skills in that next year, it may be worth considering. If they'd be filler classes to meet degree requirements, I doubt there is much/any value added.

Can you find a job?

While the market is improving, I have found most people are spending 8-12 months on the market looking for a job. What else are you going to be doing with your time if not getting the degree? Maybe stay in school, work on the second degree while looking for a job. If you find one, drop out of school to start your career or re-evaluate at that time if you can finish the second degree while working full time.

A former colleague got multiple MS degrees. He would have been better off getting the Ph.D. in many ways. He knows that now, too. Since you are on your way, why not complete the doctoral program? I regret not doing it but that's just me.
