Two-winding equivalent for the three-winding transformer

I'm looking for insights on the applicability of the two-winding equivalent model for a three-winding transformer. Specifically:
  1. In what scenarios is it acceptable to use a two-winding equivalent instead of modeling all three windings explicitly?
  2. Are there situations where this simplification leads to significant errors or is not appropriate (e.g. certain fault studies)?
  3. In what scenarios three-winding model (T-model) is more appropriate?
  4. Can anyone recommend textbooks, papers, or technical resources that discuss the limitations of the two-winding equivalent?
Appreciate any guidance or references you can share.
