Anybody out there have any opinions about the shearing rate for a consolidated, undrained triaxial test for a silt with a PI of 3, and ~5% fine sand? As would be expected, the consolidation stages were quick (relative to clay, of course) and yielded a t50 of 0.5 min. Using ASTM's recommended method for shear rate determination, you would get a rate on the order of 0.7%/min, which seems more comparable to a UU test. I get that the rate is based on allowing proper communication of the pore pressure buildup within the shear plane to the pp transducer, but this still seems fast for any CU test. I'm thinking slower is better as it's undrained, but would appreciate any thoughts...
