Hi, API 6A has not mentioned about Type 6B test flanges.
Can we use Type 6B blind flange by adding NPT port as a Test flange ? Can we monogram the same test flange?
Please advice.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

hi Vinay,

As per API 6A Clause 3.1.6, blind flanges may be used as a test flange along with test and gauge connector port. however API 6A doesn't have the 6B test flanges, but it still have the scope for the blind flanges.

quote---

3.1.6
Blind Flange
Flange with no through-bore, which may or may not include a test and gauge connector port, used to close off a flanged or studded end or outlet connector.

NOTE A blind flange with a test and gauge connector port is sometimes called a test flange.

for monogram, i believe there is no scope as per the standard. because as stated in 3.1.6, test flanges should have test and gauge connector port which is not there in 6B blind flange and intentionally it is avoided by API. so obviously you need to recreate the gauge connector port for test flanges in the 6B blind flange which is automatically going under non monogram category...

Thanks...

Hi Dinu,
Thanks for your valuable advice.
Type 6B flange can be monogrammed as a blind flange; similarly test flange can also be monogrammed under "blind flange with test port".
(NOTE: A blind flange with a test and gauge connector port is sometimes called a test flange.)
Since this is allowed by API.

Vinay,

But there is no scope for the test flange of 6B flange in the spec API 6A.

also wherever you are deviating the standard requirement, you cannot be monogrammed... as per this statement, for 6B test flange, you are deviating the requirement however you are modifying the blind flange by providing the gauge port connection for test flange, which is simply going under non monogram...

Hope its clear i believe...
