I'm hoping to get feedback on how to design the following condition.
I'm designing a 4 story apartment building wood framed, designated as a type III building... The IBC states that walls need to be non-combustible but FRT studs are allowed. I have a floor truss system that sits on top of the wall. In order to comply with the non-combustible requirement, the first couple feet of the truss will be constructed with FRT material along with FRT floor sheathing.
My problem is with beams that are perpendicular to the wall. My initial solution was to use FRT glulam beams but the NDS supplement for glulams section 4.6, says that FRT glulams are not recommended and that the manufacturer accepts no responsibility.
I know there are a couple of different ways to frame a type III building and I know there is some ambiguity in the code when it comes to the intersection of wall and floors regarding the fire rating.
I hope I explained my situation clearly...... Any feedback back regarding FRT glulams or code interpretation would be much appreciated.
