Typical Charpy values for API 5L X65?

Does anyone know what might be typical CVN results at 0 degrees C for API 5L X65? I'm asking about the base metal, not the weld.

At least 100J at 0 deg C for some of the Japanese and some domestic steel plates used to manufacture API line pipe.

Actually, it is possible. Make sure you are comparing full size CVN impact energy values. I used the value of 100J because that was the minimum I have seen published for some work that was performed by JFE on line pipe steel plate.

I reviewed a paper from JFE Oil and Gas on devleopment of X100 steels, and they had CVN values reported for JOE and COE formed BM plate steel. The CVN BM values at -10 deg C were between 310 to 320 J. At higher temperature, the CVN values would be slightly higher.
 
Looks like standard test; it's 10 mm x 10 mm.

I guess it's OK. I'm not used to this steel, and the numbers seemed ridiculously high, especially since the minimum spec requirement is only 27J.

450 J at 0 deg C can be achieved, especially if chemical compositions with low carbon < 0,05% are chosen.

While "typical" toughness values should not be ascribed to X65 pipe due to highly differnet melting and thermal/mechanical heat treatments used in its manufacture, the values you described are certainly obtainable and have been obtained for at least the past 25 years.

Next question--how consistent should the results be? I have 4 heats, 3 samples each, and they're within about 5% of each other. I would expect to see more scatter.

Not necessarily. I have seen many CVN test results with less scatter than you reported for typical B&PV plate steels that are not microalloy, and are N&T.
