Have to calculate the seismic impact on a vertical steel vessel structure at a jetty.
Using the ASCE 7-10, this calculation is no problem for me. However, my client asks a UBC 97 calculation.
Starting studying the UBC 97, Volume 2, Section 1629, I have been forwarded to Table 16-K.
This Table uses the terms "Groups", "Divisions" and "Categories" like there is an overall list in which all structures are specified at.
Does this list exists and where can I find it?
Is there another way or key to use Table-K?

Thanks in advance,

HJS

You should ask the question why your client thinks UBC 97 is applicable. There's a good chance that current codes will apply to modifications or remediation.

This is not a client decision....it is a decision for the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).

Look in Volume 1 of the UBC, probably chapter 3. While they may be defined differently, the difference between occupancy categories is very similar to risk categories in ASCE 7-10 (except they are backward, category 1 in 97 UBC is 4 in ASCE 7-10)
