Does the UBC or California building code publish specifications or guidelines for sistering glulam structural beams?
We have a 23 foot 21" x 3 1/4" glulam beam supporting a 10x12 cantilevered 3rd story deck which has developed dry rot on one end. Replacement is impossible without major structural work, but we have sufficient room on the side of the beam to sistern a new like member on its side 22.5 feet long.
Does the Universal building code allow this? Do they have guidelines to follow?
