ubc code load combinations

could anyone tell me when to use the basic load combination or the alternate load combinations. If my loadings consider only dead load and wind load, can I use the alternate load combination to have the allowable stress increase because basic load combination does not permit that.

We don't use the UBC in power transmission line work, so you probably won't get any help in this forum. I suggest you post in one of the forums for structural engineers.
