hello, I am a new user of the UBC97 and I put myself a question about the combinations of the seismic directions.

Using a modeling I obtains the seismic efforts according to the 3 directions: Ex Ey and Ez.

how do I have to combine these directions in the combinations of the UBC97?

in FRANCE we use the method of NEWMARK:

E= +- 1.0 Ex +- 0.3 Ey +- 0.3 Ez
+- 0.3 Ex +- 1.0 Ey +- 0.3 Ez
+- 0.3 Ex +- 0.3 Ey +- 1.0 Ez

Can you say to me if my interpretation of article 1630.1.1 is correct and corresponds to our method of NEWMARK :

E = ro Eh + Ev =ro (+- Ex +- Ey) +- Ez
Em = Oo Eh =Oo (+- Ex +- Ey)

Thank you very much for your answers

Thank you very much JAE.

But in ypur thread you don't speak about the possibility of taking + or - for seismic components. Can you assure me my interpretation or say yourselves how must I combine EX EY EZ.

Sorry for my English but French is not really good :)

Thank you very much
