I am familiar with the perforated shear wall requirements of the IBC and IRC but I am wondering if there is any mention in the UBC97? I am looking and have yet to find it. Any help...

Thankx

Reviewing the 1997 UBC, my understanding is that Perforated Shear Walls are not addressed by the code. The reason may be that the PSW method was not developed until after the 97 UBC was completed.

I am checking with one of my APA contacts to find out the historical background of the development of PSW.

If you have access to it, the SEAOC Siesmic Design Manual, Volume 2 has a good example of a perforated shear wall, design example 1, section 9.

According to Karyn Beebe from APA-EWS "The perforated shear wall method was developed in Japan based on testing in 1994". She indicated after further testing in the US it was included in the 2000 IBC.
