Hi,

I am dealing with cylindrical vessels (inner diameter=d) with flat unstayed covers at both ends. These covers have central openings (finished diameter=dop). Following UG-39 (b), I already found no reinforcement was needed in cases dop<=0.5 d; but, for the same vessel and cover thicknesses, could I simply assume the same in cases where dop>0.5 d, without the need for calculations stated by UG-39 (c)?

Thanks in advance,

J.I.G.C.

Your question is unclear (or are you requesting whether you can dismiss a code rule?).
If the diameter of the opening exceeds one half the head diameter, then UG-39(c) is of application, and you cannot a priori assume the rules it contains are satisfied.
