UG assembly: Reposition Component Dialog Box

Hi All

I have an assembly that needs reposition of sub components and its quite an iterative process that cannot be done with UG constraints. So I have been using the reposition component tool for that. But everytime I open the reposition component dialog box, it goes to the "options" tab instead of the "transform" tab.
Do we have any preferences that can be set so UG opens the "transform" tab by default.

That's because you're selecting a sub-assembly rather than an individual component.

John, its the same case whether you select a sub assembly or an indivudual components, the first screen I get is the "options" tab. Well you can get to the "transform" tab with just one mouse click but I have to check for interference every time I reposition the component which can get very exhaustive, so one less click of the mouse button always helps

On my version of NX 4.0, unless I select a sub-assembly, it goes to the 'Transform' tab. Of course once you move to Assembly Constraints (optional starting with NX 5.0 and mandatory starting with NX 7.5) this would all be a moot point.

Of course once you move to Assembly Constraints (optional starting with NX 5.0 and mandatory starting with NX 7.5) this would all be a moot point.

Can you expand on this a little, I'm not sure I understand. Do you mean that assembly constraints are going to replace/change the reposition component command?

In a way.

When you start to use Assembly Constraints instead of Mating Conditions, the 'Reposition Component' dialog will be replaced with one called 'Move Component'. But more than that, the functionality and options offered will be totally different. To start with there will only be a single dialog (NO 'tabs', therefore your original issue is 'moot') and while there will still be options to either dynamically 'drag' under-constrained Components, or perform an explicit 'move' operation, there will also be the option to use a set of tools identical to what you were given when you're actually Constraining a Component, only when used during a 'Move' operation, the Constraints are NOT remembered. What this allows you to do is become skilled at using a common set of tools to position Components whether these positions are to be retained as Assembly Constraints or merely as temporary, unconstrained positions. And to make it easier to perform what people often end up using 'Reposition' for in the first place, while you're in the Assembly Constraint dialog you are able to instantly NOVE the components around dynamically without ever having to change dialogs. This is very handy as it allows you 'move' a component closer to where it needs to be as you add Constraints and a very powerful capability is that this allows you to instantly test the under-constrained status of your Assembly's Components by 'drag' them so that you see exactly what degrees-of-freedom remains before continuing with adding more Constraints. Remember, we're talking about allowing you to basically 'reposition' Components while you're still in the dialog where you're adding Constraints. Now there is still a separate 'Move Component' function, but you find that you will be using it less.

Looking forward to this new option in NX7.5 (when/if my company decides to upgrade to this version). but for now I guess I will have to live with it.

No where did I say this (the Constraint Navigator) was in NX 7.5.

Since NX 7.5 has been available for nearly a year now, when we refer to the 'next version of NX', we're talking about the version which comes AFTER NX 7.5.
