Has anyone ever figured out how to get NX3 working on Windows 7? I got to the bottom of the thread and it doesn't give me any answers. But I only know enough to be dangerous. I need this in a bad way!

What's the exact problem? Does it install? Installs, but doesn't work? No license?

I just installed NX3 on Windows 7 64bit as a test and it works. Had to install the 3.0.5 MR update as there was a graphics error but otherwise it works as it should with no mucking around.

I got it to install o.k. It grabs license and tries to fire up but I get the same two errors I saw in another thread.

THE GRAPHICS WINDOW HAS DETECTED AN ERROR AND IS NOT ABLE TO INITIALIZE

and

GENERAL FAULT EXCEPTION

It looked like somebody was tracking down a graphics driver problem, but I also read where somebody fixed it by installing a 3.0.5 QRM. My other problem is that I can't get the QRM's to install, even using the DOS commands. What am I doing wrong?

I got that exact error message and fixed it by installing the NX3.0.5 MR. What's the error message when you try and install it? Do you have other versions of NX installed?

DISCLAIMER: This is NOT the official position of Siemens PLM Software.

I currently have 12 versions of UG/NX, from UG V16.0 to NX 8.0, on my laptop which is running Windows 7. Granted, except for the last few instances such as NX 6.0 thru NX 8.0, these were NOT actually 'installed' but rather simply copied from my old Windows XP laptop, however, despite that, they all seem to work just fine.

With NX3, you may need to delete "psapi.dll" from the ...\UGII\ folder.

NX 6.0.5.3
Windows XP32

When I execute the ugs_update.bat it tells me that the folder defined by variable %UGII_BASE_DIR% does not exist. Ihave checked it 14 times and it is correct. Could my install of NX6 be messing with it? NX6 works fine, but I still can't install the QRM's for NX6 either. Tried deleting the file that was suggested, no difference. I can get my hands on QRM 3.0.5 but I still need to figure out how to install it.

Thanks every body, you have been the one thing that has made this week survivable.

Open a Command Prompt, set the two variables (ROOT & BASE) and then execute the BAT file.

NX 6.0.5.3
Windows XP32

Or do as I do and create a .bat file for each version of UG/NX in which I set all of the variables and provide the start-up command so that all I have to do is 'execute' whichever .bat file I wish to start that particular software version.

To this end I've attached a copy of a generic .bat file which if you review the internal comments, it will explain how you can use it to launch independent sessions of NX. Download the attached file and change the extension from .zipper to .zip before attempting to extract the .bat file.

I have 19 versions of NX on my system, only 4 are installed. I have every MR from NX5 and up plus NX3 and NX4. When I try to run the MR updates it always errors so what I do is copy the MR to a temp folder. I then edit the ugs_update.bat and make the very first line:
Set UGII_BASE_DIR=c:\eng_apps\nx3.0.5.3
Then save the file and double click to run.
That way the rest of the batch file is implicitly told where NX is. Never had a problem doing it that way and it avoids mucking about with changing the variables at the OS level.

O.K. guys, we got it working. Had nothing to do with graphics, or drivers, or QRM's. It was Windows 7! My user account did not let me run the QRM's even though I had administrator rights. The clue was in the previous post. His install of NX3 was not in the Program Files. I moved my NX3 out of the Program Files, updated my variables, ran the QRM and started NX3. Woooo Hoooo!
