I knew that NX3 is on the anvil and just curious to know that what are the additions and major modifications in it over NX2

Thanks

These are just some of the larger items that I know were being thrown around. Whether they actually make it to NX3 or a later release is up in the air.

Gateway

-Customer Defaults are now displayed via an interface within a UG session. Looks like no more text file editing for defaults.

-Plotting has been tinkered with. I have no specific details on that.

-Drag & drop toolbar & menu customization.

-Radial popups for MB3

-Multiple graphics windows

-Zoom on cursor location. Probably affecting users with mouse wheels.

-Real time shadows

Modeling

-Associative curves in modeling: Capability to constrain curves outside of a sketch environment.

-Modeled Text: Ability to place 2D text into a model & extrude the text to form engraved or bossed text onto the model. I believe the plan was to incorporate Windows fonts versus the standard UG fonts. Expect this to mature into a solid text placement & modeling function.

-Associative points in modeling

-Edge blend enhancements (no details).

-Spherical corner

Drafting

-New Add View interface

-New Section View interface

Just a few items to wet your palette.

Customer defaults being editted internally to UG is a return to pre-V10 methods. From a sys admin point, the text files for customer defaults is a plus. In fact, moving the customer defaults to text files was an enhancement request in the pre-V10 days.

Have we come full circle on this?

Ben,

I understand what you are saying. I think they are addressing that as well....but don't take that as being golden. I've yet to see NX3 working yet, so we'll see.

On the topic of customer defaults, they are actually still saved in a file, but they are edited inside the UG session, not via a text file. There are also 2 or 3 new levels of modification permissions, in the form of env variables. There is now an enterprise level defaults, and a user level. So the Sysadmin need only to set up one set of defaults, and he is allowed to specify whether or not each option can or cannot be changed by a user. Then the admin simply needs to add a system environment variable to point to the location of the specific files. It is actually a pretty good system for setting defaults, and locking only those which need to be locked.
On the topic of plotting, it not just been tinkered with, it have been completely overhauled [2thumbsup]
Multi graphics windows is not something that too many people will be excited about... because all the windows show the same part, similar to layouts. [nosmiley]
Associative points and curves are probably one of the most important new items. [bigcheeks]
