Alright guys, here is the situation.
Our company makes automotive checking fixtures using NX6.

We have a bunch of designers who build the assemblies and then a single guy who then takes that file's individual components and details them out for the guys on the floor. (block sizes in drafting, zeros the part for the mill, creates .dxf's from extracted curves, and so on)
Basically he is giving the guys on the floor all the detailed information they need to build the fixture.

I am looking for a way to automate some of this task. I been using macros to repeat exact commands but I don't see how they can be used to do the same task on parts with different parameters. For example: I can record myself going through and extracting all of the edge curves from a part and exporting the resulting lines/arcs as an .iges, but that macro will only work on that part.
Is there a way to repeat the task on an object from a different assembly?

Any help would be awesome,

As you are recording a Macro and you get to a point where you would expect to be doing soming with a different model, like selecting something, at the point, before you do any selecting, go back to the Macro pull-down and select the 'User Entry' or the 'User Entry with Instructions' (if you wish to tell whoever is going be using the Macro exactly what it is that you want him to do) and perform your selection and continue with recording the Macro. Now when the user replays the Macro, it will stop at the selection step (with or without instructions) and allow him to select whatever he needs to before the Macro continues with the rest of the operations.

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

And afterwards,

you can create a command button with it.
RM button on a toolbar, select Customize, then goto command tab and at the bottom of the list there is the possebility the create our own button.

Best regards,
