I'm sure the upcoming new license policy has been adressed in this forum, but the search option still doesn't seem to work.

Anyway, my sales rep is only interested in selling things and has not the slightest clue what is going on, therefore my question to you all:

What is all this CID stuff about? I have a desktop and a laptop and can work on both by simply changing the dongle. how will this be done when the license server uses a fixed CID?

Hi,
as far as I know for other programs that use the same policy, you have to retrieve both IDs, declare them to your sales rep (sometimes this is not needed, but generally it is), then install the license manager on both machines, and use "license borrowing" to "lend" the license from one computer (one machine-ID) to the other, and vice-versa. Once you have borrowed the license from machine "A" to "B", the program is unusable on "A" until you "check back" the license from "B" to "A".
Some programs allow for the declaration of any number of computers (but if one day you change one ID or want to add another ID to the list, you have to ask for a license update); with UG, I don't know.

Is the CID equal to the MAC address is what I want to know?

I have been told that borrowing is an add on that can be purchased, it may not be inordinately expensive but nor is it an insignificant amount. I note also that under flexlm with the dongle it wasn't required if you wanted to use say a desktop and a laptop by swapping the dongle over. I fear that it may be the case that we are being charged extra for what under the preexisting arrangement was effectively free.

No, the CID is different than the MAC address. You have to run a small utility, that will extract the CID from the machine. I believe it is a combination of the MAC address, and some other hardware/OS identifiers, crunched up in a formula, and spit out as the CID.

Everything should be designed as simple as possible, but not simpler.

We just had this situation. Yes the "borrowing" needs a seperate license, but it is free!!

How does this borrowing work? What are the possibilities?

If it's a seperate license, I feel them coming...

From what I understand, it enables you to borrow the NX license from one machine and use it on another. You specify the NX license check out and check in times prior to borrowing it.
