I am hoping to relocate to the US in the next month or so.

I need to get back to basics as regards steel structure design. I am a little rusty in this area as I have mianly been involved in the numerical (computer)analysis of tension structures.

I have a fairly good academic background and grounding in steel work design but have not applied it in any real depth in the work place.

Does any body have any advice as to suitable reading matter to get me up to date both with the design philosophy of steel work design in the States and the American codes used in such design.

One book that I've looked at is:

Structural Steel Design, Volume 1 ASD by Alan Williams

Has anybody got any advice as to how I could get a copy of this book in the UK?

thanks.

Professional Publications Inc. ( has the Williams book and many others.
Also, if you don't already, get a copy of the AISC manual. As you work through the Williams book it will regularly reference the applicable codes in AISC.
