Does anyone here have experience with the 13 chemical test of standard UL 1203? I have some confusion regarding the chemical test and its applicability to wires that pass thru a flameproof sealant (e.g- flameproof wire bushing, flameproof conduit fitting, etc.). A good example of my confusion are Cooper Crouse Hinds flameproof conduit fittings with 'Chico' cement. It seems to me that both the wire insulation and the 'Chico' cement in a flameproof conduit fitting would be considered a non-metal subject to the 13 chemical test of UL 1203. However, my research indicates that the Chico is not subject to this chemical test. I have also noticed that these flameproof conduit fittings do not give specific guidelines for acceptable wire insulation types. This would seem to imply that all types of wire insulation material are acceptable (PVC, ETFE, XLPE, etc.).
Does anyone know why the chemical test does not apply to these conduit fittings?
Any help would be appreciated...
