I cannot get a straight answer on some of these questions. Can anyone help?

I'm currently looking into installing a new UL/FM firepump vertical turbine unit with a requirement of 5000gpm and 180psi. The quote I received on the unit does not have all components UL and / or FM listed.

My question is, what is the difference between UL Listed and FM Approved? What are their limitations (Pressure, flow, electrical, etc?). Which items apply to which components??

Thanks!

They are both valid approvals. They're just different companies. There is no practical differences. They both make their approvals based on the national fire code. They're similar enough that the feds have stated you can't discriminate against one or the other.

UL/FM don't particularly specifify any individual items within a fire unit package, what is approved is the "complete" package meaning pump, driver, controller, valves etc, a UL/FM fire pump is either approved or not approved - there are no nearly approved units, however, at the end of the day it usually comes down to the insurance company whether to accept the unit as they are underwriting the risk.
