UL labelling a panel with just two transmitters

Hi all,

We are a UL508A workshop, and we are currently building several bubbler panels that contain mainly components such as pressure gauges and regulators (and teh associated tubing of course).
However, since we are also installing two transmitters (Yokogawa EJA110A) in the panel our UL inspector says the panel has to be UL508A labeled.

The transmitters are directly field wired (i.e. not through terminal blocks) so other than the two transmitters there are no electric/electronic components present.

My gut feeling says that a panel with just two transmitters does no have to be UL labeled, but even after reading the scope of UL508A I can not find the right arguments to convince our UL inspector.
Can anyone explain to me why I am right or wrong, and help me find some arguments to convince my UL inspector.

Thank you
Caspar

Caspar,

??? It's not up to the shop's UL inspector -- it's up to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) at the location of installation whether the panel needs to be labeled or not.

If the AHJ requires labeling, you'll need to add terminal blocks rated for field wiring and label them appropriately if a class 2 loop.

That's my experience anyway. We make a variety of UL and non-UL panels all the time, depending on the requirements of the locality of installation.

Let us know how it turns out...

Goober Dave
