Hello all,

What's your understanding about UL vs UR motors ? I believe UL motors are tested by UL and went through extensive test. UR, on the other hand, is "recognized", not tested. And some motors don't get UL tested and labeled because they are "general purpose" motor types.

Regards,
Stan

UL lists complete systems and recognizes components of systems. A UL motor probably includes a cord and a switch. A UR motor is probably just the bare motor.

Typically something with a UR mark is said to be "incomplete" and typically has "conditions of acceptability" associated with it that must be met in the final application. With anything that has a UR mark we typically require the UL report including the conditions of acceptability so we can ensure we include the necessary components/construction to fulfil the CofA

UR testing is every bit as thorough as UL testing. As the others have said, UR just means you gotta finish it after buying it.

Good on ya,

many times it's just the same testing.. if you fail a section or don't meet the requirements that you thought you would..now it's a UR product with a CofA.. let the end user worry about that. :)
