Hi everybody,

I have a Ultrasonic LT with EEx d(ia) approval.
I think it means that the enclosure and the housing is EX d but the electronics is Ex ia.
Can you tell me what will happen if I connect it to a non-IS power supply?

I think nothing will happen and the only difference is I cannot open the housing in EX zone when the device is powered up by non-IS but if the power was IS I would be able to open the housing everywhere and anytime.
I need your kind opinions.

Thanks,
Mohsen

Mohsen,
If your sensor is labeled as EEx d [ai] that means you have intrinsic safe associated component inside flameproof box.
You are allowed to install it in all three zones 0,1,and 2.
Certified barrier gland is mandatory on junction box.
Sensor, power supply etc. all must be connected as specified in drawings for you plant and documentation only.
Regarding the maintenance etc.
For IS circuit:You need to have work permit, however electrical isolation and gas free certificate is not required, in other words you are allowed to work on live equipment.

If you are required to work on non IS circuit: you need to have work permit, electrical isolation and gas free certificate for that zone
