Ultrasonic testing on SDSS A995 Gr.5A castings

Shell Mesc SPE77/302;2008 requires 100% RT/UT on pressure containing parts in IC-IV. Since UT is given as an option, valve manufacturers are proceeding with UT on SDSS castings to save time. Since we do not have a reference standard for UT on high alloy steel castings, can we allow manufacturers with UT?

This is a question where the answer can only be given by Shell or the end users as this is an interpretation of a standard. The interpretation could differ. (My answer would be 'no' - depending on end users practice you could head into problems here? (Others?))

You might ask (perhaps this was the intention?) if others have had any similar experience.
