Hi all.
I have spent a long time trying to get this part to mesh properly using the above element type. When trying to mesh the part I get the message
"The selected regions are bottom up regions, which cannot be meshed automatically; use the bottom-up mesh tools instead. I am almost sure I should be able to mesh the part using this element type.

Any help would be appreciated. I have attached the .cae file.

Thanks

In the mesh module:
1. Create planes offset 0 from XY and YZ
2. Partition cell using datum planes
3. Assign mesh controls -> element shape -> hex
4. Mesh

Is the indentor acting at an oblique angle? If not an axisymmetric model would be prefered.
I hope this helps.

Thank you very much for your quick and helpful response. I plan to use this model to investigate fretting behaviour and so I need to be able to apply some tangential sliding to the indentor.

What module is the 'create plane' feature in please?

Please excuse the double post. I have found the create datum plane feature.

That method worked.

Thanks @rstupplebeen :)
